I loved the words Robbie, my aunt, posted today in honor of her dad, my grandpa:
Daddy So Dear,
I long so much to hear your voice from up above.
No matter how hard I try,
all I can do some days is cry cry cry.
So this is a little birthday wish for you today,
for you up above to hear my plea.
Please please answer me.
Just a word or sign.
That you are not so far away.
Happy Birthday Daddy
I checked and realized he would have been 95 today - wow! Robbie's words inspired me to write the following poem, based on what she wrote, and also turn it into a print. I'm so grateful Robbie shared her tender, loving words here on his birthday. Happy Birthday, Grandpa Ingram! We love you and miss you and know we will be with you again some day!
Daddy Dear
Oh Daddy dear, I long to hear your voice from up above.
Oh happy birthday, Daddy dear, I’m sending you my love.
My tears escape on days like this, no matter how I try.
I hope you know, I miss you so, all I can do is cry.
I wish upon your birthday now, for you to hear my plea.
Oh please, oh please now, Daddy dear, oh please just answer me.
A word or sign to indicate, you are not far away,
Is all I need for you to do, to help me be okay.
Oh happy birthday, Daddy dear, I miss your gentle smiles.
I know you’re near, when I am low, to help me through my trials.
I wish you well beyond the veil, have fun and celebrate.
Though soon enough I’ll be with you, I anxiously must wait.
