Beloved

Beloved

My parents lost their beloved dog, Bea. They brought her home as a baby pup 13 years earlier. To bring a small measure of comfort, I wrote this poem for them. Though of course nowhere near as devastating as the loss of a spouse, the themes of sadness at separation and hope for reunion remain the same.

Beloved

Beloved one today we bid farewell
Your measure of creation you fulfilled
Bestowing joy which caused our hearts to swell
To make us happy was your only thrill
Though now the time has come to separate
To know your spirit thrives doth bring us peace
The day shall come again we’ll run and play
Togetherness with you that shall not cease
