The Sons of Helaman

Because my poem about Samuel the Lamanite was so well received, I decided to do another one based on a beloved Book of Mormon story. I hope you enjoy it!

The Sons of Helaman

In ancient Book of Mormon times, a people chose the Lord.
In token of their covenant, they buried all their swords.
There came a day they were attacked and questioned their grand choice.
Their sons instead took up the fight, two thousand stripling boys.
Away to war they bravely marched, then led by Helaman.
And loving them just like his kin, considered them his sons.
Into the fray, he led his band, the enemy they fought,
And though the battle was intense, not one of them was lost.
How was it so that all survived? They knew the reason why.
Their mothers taught them that with faith the Lord would spare their lives
Oh, Zion's mothers everywhere doubt not your majesty!
The truths you teach will bear great fruit into eternity.
