Samuel the Lamanite

It's been a while since I've done a poem based on a story from the scriptures. Here you go!

Samuel the Lamanite

High on a city wall, he stood, "From God, I have been sent
Your people all shall be destroyed, if you do not repent
The prophets you do stone and slay, and mock their words sublime
Iniquity abounds with you, like them in olden times
The Lord shall curse you for your sins, He'll take your treasures too
'Til all is lost and you shall howl, your wickedness you'll rue
O people now please hear my words! For your souls, I do pray
May God's fierce wrath be turned from you, repent now and be saved
The coming of our Lord is near, five years until His birth
And as a sign the night He comes, great light shall fill the earth
Believe on Him, the Son of God, and gain eternal life
By His command I prophesy, repentance is my cry
Another sign I give to you, behold now when He dies
Upon the land shall darkness reign, three days devoid of light"
Now many did believe his words and sought to be baptized
Yet many more with hardened hearts did seek to end his life
In anger they did cast their stones, their arrows they did send
Yet not a one did touch his skin, the Spirit did defend
His message he had now dispatched, he leapt down from the wall
Among the people of this land, no more was heard his call
And yet his words have been preserved, recorded for our day
May we now heed his warnings dire and cast our sins away
The coming of the Lord is near, the time is now at hand
For righteous people everywhere, to bravely take a stand
Prepare your hearts, repent, repent, no sin can ye afford
With righteousness anticipate, the coming of the Lord
