Oh Noble Pioneer
We were not several million strong when baptism you chose.
You merely had a humble faith, God’s truths would be disclosed.
That He had called this simple man, unlearned and in his youth,
To bring forth witnesses from dust, to testify of truth.
Though difficult, you followed him, to build this kingdom strong,
And though he sealed his oath with blood, undaunted you pressed on.
When men before you strategized, that they might take his place,
The Lord revealed His leader new, transfiguring his face.
When lasting peace could not be found, you followed this great man,
And set off for an unknown place, he called The Promised Land.
Your sufferings are foreign things, I can't quite comprehend.
In shallow graves along the trail, you left both kin and friends.
Though hunger, death, and untold miles, combined to form a hell.
You bravely took another step, proclaiming, "All is well."
I pray I'll emulate your faith, today and one more year,
And take for granted not your lead, oh noble pioneer.
