Captain Moroni

I thought it fitting for Memorial Day to commemorate with a poem one of the greatest champions of liberty ever to live in the Americas - Captain Moroni.

Captain Moroni

In ancient times, a time of war, there lived a Godly man
Who fought against his enemies, brave troops he did command
He was a strong and mighty man, yet war brought no delight
For freedom and for liberty, he boldly chose to fight
His heart did swell with gratitude, thanksgiving to the Lord
His people he sought to defend, by taking up his sword
He swore an oath that he would fight, yea, even give his life
For his religion and his land, with stalwart faith in Christ
He rent his coat and took a piece, inscribed on it this creed:
"In mem'ry of our God, our faith, our freedom and our peace
Our wives and also children too" These words came from his soul
He took them then and raised them up, attached them to a pole
Upon the earth, he bowed himself, and mightily he prayed
That God might keep his nation free, as long as they had faith
Then with his banner, he went forth, he named it "Liberty"
And waving it he called to arms, all men who would be free
With God, these men did covenant, that if they did His will
Remaining true unto their faith, He would defend them still
Oh if all men were like this man, who served his people well
The devil would be powerless, the gates be closed to hell
Moroni, may we be like him, and fight now as with swords
That we might help to usher in, the coming of our Lord
