The Quest

One day, I came across the following quote from someone’s near-death experience:

“The divine presence was so calm I had a feeling that superseded peace. The feeling was what everyone searches for in life through money, religion, marriage and everything else. This was it. Then I started understanding why people are constantly searching and are never satisfied. It is because what we long for is not here on earth. The word doesn’t even exist. The only word that may come close to this presence is a strong peace, God.” (https://iands.org/research/nde-research/nde-archives31/newest-accounts/37-more-than-euphoria-amid-the-presence.html)

Inspired by these insights, I wrote the following poem, reflecting on what truly matters.

The Quest

We ever seek to be fulfilled, to quench an inner thirst
A call sublime doth beckon us, and urges us yet on
In search of that which will complete, and make us as at first
Within our hearts reverberates, pristine celestial song

We grasp and try to recollect, the source of all we are
As memories slip between our hands, much as a fading dream
A heritage yet beckoning, from deep within the stars
A sense that all our eyes behold, is not quite what it seems

For now we must be satisfied, accept our current state
Here in a flawed and mortal frame, upon this fallen plane
Do all we can to yet improve, while glory doth await
Until at last, our quest complete, our destiny attained
